Requirements
- Diploma in Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy degree
- Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as a Pharmacist.
- At least three years’ experience, preferably in the primary health care environment
- Sound knowledge of current medicines and the essential drug list
- Proven interpersonal and administrative skills
- An eye for detail
- Integrity
- A valid Code 8 driver’s license.
Key Performance Areas
- Ensure Legal Compliance by ensuring that the Pharmacy complies with the provisions of the Pharmacy Act.
- Manage the Pharmacy in a clinic or community health setting by:
- Acquisition, ordering, storage, dispensing and supply of medication (acute and chronic) & related products;
- Ensuring effective and efficient stock management & control to maintain the integrity and security of all products
- Ensuring the implementation of Drug Management Policies and Procedures
- Ensuring the general day to day management of the Pharmacist’s Assistants
- Monitoring of medicine usage, pharmaceutical expenditure and keeping the Clinic Manager informed of budget trends
- Informing the Clinic Manager of locum requirements
- Support and advise other categories of medical and paramedical staff with regard to medicine use, provide information and guidance on rational prescribing, medicine use and budgetary management.
- Development of the Pharmacist’s assistants in order to provide adequately trained and legally compliant staff in the Pharmacy.
- Performing administrative responsibilities in order to administer an efficient and effective Pharmacy.
- Job purpose as per job description: the requirement to register as a responsible pharmacist where applicable.
