Johannesburg Water SOC Ltd (JW) is a municipal entity incorporated on 21 November 2000 and commenced business on 1 January 2001 as an independent company, with the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) as its sole shareholder.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Organise, plan and prioritise multiple projects simultaneously for effective implementation and project tracking. Conduct site investigations, verify existing services, and determine further investigations required to develop design solution. Gather information from GIS, IMQS and Operations. Investigate and propose new and innovative ways of solving engineering problems.
- Prepare preliminary design reports based on site investigation conducted. Present design reports to Senior Engineers, Operations, Infrastructure Planning and Project Management Unit. Compile project specifications using the SANS1200 series, Johannesburg Water Design standards and any other relevant specification.

- Compile Tender document using CIDB regulations and GCC/JBCC/NEC as applicable in line with JW Supply Chain Management Policy. Monitor contractors in terms of the contract document, GCC/JBCC/NEC as applicable and all other relevant specifications.
- Conduct site visits to check if work is undertaken according to specifications and drawings. Conduct site visits to check if work is undertaken according to specifications and drawings. Chair site meetings with contractors and ensure minutes are distributed on time.
- Prepare as-built drawings using AutoCAD or other. Prepare Asset Capitalisation forms and submit to Project Managers. Attend to all defects during the defects liability period and issue a Final Approval certificate and prepare final account. Identify project risks and develop mitigation plans.
- Provide mentorship support to Trainees and bursars towards their professional development. Engage and communicate the project scope and timelines to the project stakeholders namely, CMU, Infrastructure Planning, Project Management Unit, Operations, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Department and Communications/Stakeholder Relations and the communities to ensure successful project implementation
JOB REQUIREMENTS: ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering/ Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree / Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum 5 years’ Mechanical experience related to design and procurement of Pump Stations / WWTWs/ PRVs/ Water Metering/Telemetry.
- Computer literacy in use of design packages such Techno CAD/AutoCAD/Civil Designer/Civil 3D
- Valid Code B Drivers’ license + Own Transport
