Planning Outside Broadcasts
- Liaise with event organisers to secure venues, times, and dates.
- Arrange guests for live crossings and interviews.
- Conduct assessment for suitability of venue.
- Ensure diverse, timely live interviews per news desk direction.
- Draft a detailed and clear broadcast plan to guide the news desk.
Editorial Oversight
- Shape and refine story angles in alignment with editorial strategy.
- Guide and support interview structures to ensure coherent storytelling and high production value.
- Uphold journalistic integrity, accuracy, and editorial quality under tight deadlines.
Field Coordination
- Direct and coordinate reporters, camera crews, and technical teams for live and recorded productions.
- Conduct site inspections and assess the suitability of venues for broadcast requirements.
- Manage on-site logistics, including transport, permits, equipment, and venue access.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the field team and the newsroom.
News Gathering & Planning
- Collaborate with reporters, camera crews, and newsroom editors to plan field coverage.
- Identify, source, and verify story elements, background material, and leads ahead of coverage.
- Conduct location scouting and risk assessments for field assignments.
Communication
- Maintain strong coordination with Assignments, News Editors, and Logistics.
- Communicate permissions and requirements with event organisers.
- Brief all stakeholders including camera crew, reporters, and guests.
Research
- Perform thorough research, including pre-interviews, fact-checking, and background compilation.
- Monitor social media, traditional news outlets, and internal archives for real-time developments and visuals.
- Provide reporters with concise and reliable background material.
Implementation
- Deliver timely updates to the News Desk on the status of field assignments.
- Ensure field content adheres to editorial and ethical standards throughout the process.
- Secure unique soundbites and insights from interviewees, adding value to editorial output.
Technical & Production Support
- Operate and advise on use of SNG vans, LiveU, eLink and other broadcasting tools as needed.
- Support technical setup for live links (e.g., OB units, satellite, mobile journalism kits).
- Troubleshoot on-site production issues in real-time.
- Review raw footage and contribute to editing or scripting where required.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure all field/production activities adhere to health and safety protocols, legal standards, and ethical guidelines.
- Manage press credentials and access in sensitive or high-risk areas.
Requirements
Qualifications
- National Senior Certificate – Essential
- Higher Certificate in Broadcast and/or Journalism – Essential
Experience
- 3 years in Broadcast and/or Journalism and/or Producing
- Drivers Licences – Essential
