Job Description

  • We have an exciting opportunity within the Truworths IT team. We are looking for an experienced IT Systems Engineer Team Leader to lead and oversee the third-line POS support team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing resources, vendors, and a team of engineers, as well as working on store-related projects. This position reports directly to the IT Systems Manager and is based at the Truworths Head Office in Cape Town.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead team of 2 technical resources and 1 contractor to efficiently perform duties to meet objectives
  • Schedule standby for technical staff ensuring technical coverage within the team
  • Perform standby support when and where applicable
  • Meet with vendors to review products and pricing
  • Install, upgrade, support and troubleshoot workstations, printers, scanners, PED’s and any other authorized network connected devices related to point of sale systems
  • Identify and repair hardware and software problems on above listed device types
  • Be responsible for patch management of the Operating systems in Stores
  • Effectively diagnose hardware & software problems and replace defects.
  • Escalate issues when required manager
  • Resolve hardware and network connectivity issues where applicable
  • Assist in technical upgrading and maintaining of entire environment and systems.
  • Manage and support in testing and deployment of new applications and systems.
  • Ensure technical documentation is completed and up to date

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • Qualification or Certificate in Information Technology or other relevant qualifications from industry recognised institutes (A+, N+, MCSA, MCSE)
  • Minimum 5+ years working experience as a Desktop Support Technician, Network Support Technician, Systems Administrator, or similar role
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Windows operating systems and working knowledge of Linux
  • Experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting desktop computers and servers and their operating systems and peripherals and relevant software environments  Experience working with and understanding the fundamentals of configuring and troubleshooting computer networks (TCP IP configuration, subnets, DNS, etc.)
  • Experience working with, configuring and troubleshooting PED / card payment devices
  • Experience working with Unified Device Management Systems
  • Experience working with Wifi and tethered scanners
  • Experience resolving end-user problems and working with an incident management system
  • Experience dealing with customers, staff and external suppliers on a continuous basis
  • Assist the greater IT team with administration tasks. These could include, but are not limited to, backup/restore procedures, office application support, hardware support, network support, monitoring of critical systems and processes, after hour support.
