Joburg Theatre Complex, previously known as the Johannesburg Civic Theatre, is a group of four theatres situated in Braamfontein, Johannesburg, South Africa. It was built in 1962, refurnished in the late 1980s and reopened in the early 1990s before it was re-branded in 2009.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 or equivalent.
- 1+ year of experience in stage technical operations.
- Basic knowledge of lighting, sound, and rigging systems and equipment operation.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
- Knowledge of stage management software
- Ability to lift and move equipment.
- Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist in setting up and striking stage equipment (lighting, sound, rigging).
- Operate stage equipment under the guidance of senior technicians.
- Maintain and perform basic repairs on stage equipment.
- Collaborate with production teams to achieve desired technical outcomes.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations.
- Assist with event setup and teardown.
- Operate any stage, lighting and sound equipment within theatre when needed.
- Serve on all in-house productions and co-productions, responsible to the Senior Stage Technician
- Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- Responsible for all Stage related operations/initiatives including those that will require travelling.
- Inspect hanging gear and make sure that it is safe to use and in good repair.
- Ensure safety cables are attached to all hanging gear.
- Ensure that scenery bars are in good working order and meets the required safety standards before use.
- Use computers and computer systems to write software, setup functions, enter data, and/or process information.
